i finally picked up this book and am pretty happy i did. it’s been extremely interesting and uplifting to read, as well as inspirational and i like the fact that the author is a cancer like me ;) her writing is definitely the way i would write if i ever wrote a book.

i’m currently in the middle of the india chapter and read this one part that has stuck out to me ever since i laid my eyes on the words: (a little back story to this excerpt: elizabeth is trying to meditate in her morning and afternoon sessions but keeps getting distracted with thoughts about this one guy who she keeps saying she still loves and misses, so she talks to a yogi about the situation and this is what he tells her). i completely agree with everything he is saying too.

“big deal. so you fell in love with someone. don’t you see what happened? this guy touched a place in your heart deeper than you thought you were capable of reaching. i mean you got zapped, kiddo. but that love you felt, that’s just the beginning. you just got a taste of love. that’s just limited little rinky-dink mortal love. wait till you see how much more deeply you can love than that…

…he probably was [your soulmate]. your problem is you don’t understand what the word means. people think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. but a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. a true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. but to live with a soul mate forever? nah. too painful. soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. and thank god for it… you’re like a dog at the dump, baby — you’re just lickin’ at an empty tin can, trying to get more nutrition out of it. and if you’re not careful, that can’s gonna get stuck on your snout forever and make your life miserable. so drop it…

…so miss him. send him some love and light every time you think about him, and then drop it… but here’s what you gotta understand, groceries. if you clear out all that space in your mind that you’re using right now to obsess about this guy, you’ll have a vacuum there, an open spot– a doorway”.

this weekend i took a little trip to sacramento for my friends baby shower and we had a wonderful time playing cute baby shower games while drinking a little champagne and enjoying the excitement of this new life about to be brought into the world :) here’s one of the photos from the party. more will be posted soon, so stay tuned!!

my sister, best friend and i are making it a point to buy our tickets to new york this friday. i haven’t been there since i was eighteen and i stayed in brooklyn with some family friends. i didn’t have much time to explore more than soho, brighton beach, nyu stern and fifth ave. so, this time around it’s going to be one hell of a ride and i CANNOT wait to see old friends and make some amazing memories. cheers to this friday!!!
